George Jeffrey, President, National Geographic Channels
George Jeffrey took over his present roles in January 2008 following his promotion from the position of Managing Director, Europe. In his new roles, George heads up the National Geographic Channels’ (NGC) operations in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa and oversees global development opportunities.
Previously, George had enjoyed great success as Director of Television Networks for National Geographic Channels Europe (NGCE). At the time, he was responsible for all business development, legal affairs and distribution arrangements for NGCE networks through Europe, Israel and Africa. He was a key driver in the Channel’s rapid growth, establishing reach in a total of 134 million homes in less than 5 years and making it the world’s fastest growing television network. George joined the company in January 1999.
Prior to joining NGC, he was Vice President Legal and Business Affairs at Universal Studios Networks from August 1996. He held responsibility for all legal affairs for USN’s television networks business in the UK, including Sci-Fi Channel. He also held the post of Head of Legal Affairs for Globecast Europe - France Telecom's satellite transponder and up-link provider - between 1994 and 1996.
George trained as a lawyer with an LLB from the UK’s University of Kent, and qualified as a solicitor at London Law School. After qualifying he assumed various legal roles as a solicitor at Wilde Sapte (1987 - 1991), and as Associate Legal Counsel at Hitachi Europe in 1994.
