Dawn Mccall

Dawn L. McCall is a business leader experienced in establishing and operating businesses in international markets.  She founded International Media & Entertainment Partners, LLC,  an international media consultancy in 2008.

From 1996 to 2007 McCall was President, Discovery Networks International, a division of Discovery Communications,  a global media company best known for its flagship Discovery Channel.  During her tenure as President, McCall established what today is known as one of the most profitable and professionally staffed international television businesses of any US-based media company. As the senior executive in charge of Discovery’s international business, McCall managed a staff of 1,000 professionals worldwide and oversaw all aspects of the business including new business development, strategic planning, sales and marketing, program production and operations.  

Some of her accomplishments include:

     
  • Expanding Discovery Networks International from a single channel operating in a handful of western European countries to a portfolio of 19 television networks with a complement of new media products, offered in 170 countries in 35 languages
  •  
  • Growing the business to nearly $1 billion in gross revenue
  •  
  • Delivering revenue growth (CAGR) of 27% from 1996 -- 2006
  •  
  • Delivering operating cash flow growth (CAGR) of 46% from 1996 – 2006
  •  
  • Crossing the $100 million OCF mark for the first time in 2005
  •  
  • Bringing the Discovery Channel to  profitability in all regions by 2002
  •  

As President of Discovery’s international business, McCall also served on the company’s six-member executive committee responsible for running Discovery Communications.  As a senior executive, she sat on a number of boards overseeing joint-venture businesses with large global media organizations including the BBC, Alliance Atlantis and Liberty Media.  

McCall began her career in international business when she was named Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks Latin America in 1994.  In this position, she established Discovery’s business in Latin America through a series of acquisitions and product launches.  She also established the region’s first trade association representing television network interests with the formation of TAP Latin America, where she also served as the organization’s first President.

Prior to leading Discovery’s push into international markets, McCall held several senior affiliate sales positions for the company from 1987 to 1994.  She began her career in the television network business in 1981, working for the Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia.
McCall has also worked in the public sector, serving as Assistant Administrator, Public Communications for the Small Business Administration during the Carter Administration.
An active member of her industry and community, McCall is a former board member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and winner of numerous professional awards, including being recognized as one of the 20 most influential figures in the international television business by industry trade publication TBI.
McCall holds a B.A. degree in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations from the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia.

McCall has also worked in the public sector, serving as Assistant Administrator, Public Communications for the Small Business Administration during the Carter Administration.
